FINDING IMPORTANT NERVES AND VESSELS
- Scapular Region
- Reflect the deltoid muscle laterally. The axillary nerve and posterior circumflex humeral artery and vein are on the deep surface of the deltoid near the humerus.
- On the posterior aspect of the scapula, above the spine of the scapula, and deep to the supraspinatus muscle find the suprascapular artery and suprascapular nerve that run alongside each other inferior to the superior transverse scapular ligament. At the ligament, the nerve passes under the ligament and the artery passes above it *Army (artery) goes over the bridge, Navy (nerve) goes under the bridge (ligament). The suprascapular artery and suprascapular nerve can be followed inferiorly → spine of the scapula → deep to the infraspinatus muscle.
